Pandora Philosophy and Mission

Pandora Women’s Ice Hockey is a recreational ice hockey organization formed with the following objectives:

  • To provide women of all levels of skills, a place to play ice hockey with and against other women.

  • To promote women’s ice hockey in the Greater Sacramento Valley Area.

  • To promote good sportsmanship and camraderie.

One of Pandora’s main philosophies is for the game of hockey to be played more for the fun of playing than to emphasize winning. Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Keep in mind that at all times each player represents Pandora and in that respect they should keep Pandora’s objectives in mind when participating in Pandora events.

Our Sponsors

As a young man on his first U.S. State Department assignment to Stockholm, Sweden, Jay Hartz encountered Hockey. He quickly engaged with local players and began learning about the sport, eventually holding the position of Goalie. Now, decades later, Jay is a sponsor for Pandora Hockey Club of the greater Sacramento Valley.

Jay and his wife, Peggy, have been exploring ways and means to apply small philanthropic gifts that will inspire others in communities to support projects or groups that bring enrichment to others. In this context, they found that Pandora’s open-door policy to women curious about the sport facilitates healthy team interactions, and self esteem, while improving individual motivation for physical activity.

Pandora also mentors a girl’s team, and offers low-cost programs that provide instruction, loaned equipment, and encouragement to girls in the community. Pandora maintains a modest scholarship fund for these youth programs in order that no girl who is interested in the sport is turned away due to lack of money.

“Philanthropy doesn’t have to be in the millions of dollars to have a positive impact on communities,” says Peggy. “A healthy, growing segment of financial support can be found on line with various ‘Group-On or Crowd Funding’. We discovered Pandora, its leadership, and goals through a friend. It was a good fit with our desire to see women’s sports opportunities expand in the community. Even a modest financial gift can do amazing things for local teams. Try it!”
